MATCH

On the last Tuesday of each month we hold a Match Night. A Match night is a great way for owners and their dogs to become familiar with the show ring in a less formal and less stressful environment. It is usually judged by a person independent of the ringcraft class, perhaps a well known Judge or someone keen to start out on their judging career.

To compete in the Match proper, you must be a fully paid up member of Chichester & District Canine Society, your dog must be registered in your name with the Kennel Club and be 6 months of age or over (for younger dogs please see the Puppy Walk below). Dogs, which have won a Challenge Certificate or obtained any award that counts towards the title of Champion under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club, are not eligible for entry in matches. Full Kennel Club match regulations can be found under the F(2) Show Regulations.

The format is quite simple - you fill out an entry form on the night, with your details and the dog's Kennel Club registered name. Following a draw, puppies (aged 6 to 12 months) compete against each other in pairs. The winner from each round going forward to compete again until one puppy is declared Best Puppy in Match. Similarly, adult dogs are drawn in pairs to compete against each other until one adult is declared Best Adult in Match. Finally, the two winners compete for the title Best in Match.

The Best Adult and Best Puppy in Match from each month's competition are then eligible to compete against each other for the title of "Chichester & District Canine Society Dog of the Year" and "Chichester & District Canine Society Puppy of the Year" at our Christmas Party in December.

Please do support these evenings, they are fun and do not be worried if you have never competed before, a committee member will be more than happy to run through proceedings with you – just ask.

Baby puppies/Puppy Walk (dogs less than 6 months old)
Prior to the start of the Match proper, we hold a Puppy Walk which allows our baby puppies the chance to compete against each other. Rather than being judged in pairs as above, this competition is judged as one class – all puppies line up together for the Judge to assess them. Please don't worry if your pup wriggles/plays up, they are pups after all and are here to learn the process, not be accomplished show dogs at this stage.
