RINGCRAFT

On Tuesday evenings (excluding the last Tuesday in the month which is our monthly Match meeting) we hold ringcraft training sessions at Lavant Memorial Village Hall, commencing at 7.45 pm. A map can be found here.

Ringcraft is the training of both handler and dog ready for the show ring. The training aims to replicate what you should expect if you decide to enter a dog show in an informal manner. In particular, training will involve the handler presenting their dog ready for the trainer to check his/her conformation and then moving the dog, just as you would at a show. Ringcraft is the best way to simulate show experience and will help both handler and dog to gain confidence and skill. Ringcraft sessions are also a most useful way of socialising puppies with other well mannered dogs.

An important part of the training is for your dog to feel at ease with people going over it who are likely to be complete strangers to the dog. This is important for all dogs, whether intending to show or not, as it is good preparation for that Judge's assessment or equally for a veterinary inspection. To help with this aspect of training, you will find that we have a number of ringcraft training teams, thus increasing your dog's exposure to those new people. Our teams include both men and women. So it will not be the same person examining your dog each session, week in and week out.

You are welcome to come and join us free of charge as our guest for your first week.

Weekly ringcraft fees are as follows:

One handler with one dog £1.50 per week
Each additional dog £0.50 per week
Spectators £0.50 per week
